Course Overview

The Resident Elective consists of both didactic and clinical components. Ideally, this elective is longitudinal, taking place over the course of one year.

However, a shorter elective of at least two weeks can be accommodated. The expected time commitment is aproximately 25-25 hours/week, depending on the number and type of clinical observations scheduled.

To enroll in this elective, please complete the form below. Email us at gradadmin@FACTSaboutFertility.org for more information or questions about enrollment fees.

Didactic Component

The didactic component consists of online, asynchronous content and live case studies included in our multi-part CME course.

Residents are required to complete one CME part for each week of the elective. For each part, credit is earned for successful completion of the knowledge assessments with a score of 75% or higher.

Pre-recorded, online lectures

Assigned readings

Live case study discussions with physician experts

Knowledge assessments at the conclusion of each CME part

Clinical Component

The clinical component matches residents to preceptors – physicians or clinicians trained in FABMs who incorporate FABMs into his or her practice. Residents work closely with their preceptors to see patients, assist in clinical care, and develop content for scholarly activity, such as grand rounds, research presentations, or case studies. Depending on the practice and preceptor, visits are completed in person, virtually, or both.

Attend at least four clinical encounters per week with your primary FACTS clinical preceptor.

Participate in at least two telemedicine encounters with our Executive, Director, Dr. Marguerite Duane

If doing more than two weeks, follow at least one continuity patient for two encounters and use the case for a FACTS case study presentation

Participate in a scholarly activity, such as a Grand Rounds presentation, research project, paper publication, or conference presentation in your residency focused on FABMs and their applications to address common women’s health concerns.

FACTS Membership
Pre-Requisite:

Residents must be a FACTS member to participate in this course. The cost for resident level membership is $25. Visit our Membership page for more information on joining FACTS.

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of this elective, students will be able to:
  • Discuss each FABM with confidence in a way that is understandable to patients.
  • Describe key hormonal changes of the female cycle and how they produce physical signs or biomarkers women can learn to observe and track to monitor their health, plan their families, and address medical issues.
  • Learn to read the female cycle chart and how to identify potential days of fertility as well as abnormalities that may signal specific medical conditions.
  • Observe the integration of FABMs in women’s health care by working with physicians, other clinicians, and educators trained in various evidence-based methods of fertility awareness.

Additional Training

Residents are encouraged to participate in advanced medical training through FACTS in order to learn the protocols and treatment options that follow a restorative medical approach. Adding this additional training with individualized mentorship from an assigned preceptor prepares the resident to have the skill set and expertise to use modern FABMs and restorative medicine in clinical practice.
